BananaDuck started in 2022, not as a business but as an idea I used to get dates on Tinder. I used a picture of a BananaDuck as my main profile photo as joke, not intending to find a serious relationship.

Then I met Joshua, he swiped right because of the BananaDuck and it was a perfect match! However, in February 2025, tragedy struck. I was rushed into emergency back surgery. Six days later, after a fall in the hospital, I had to do it all again. In the middle of this nightmare, Joshua and I realized we couldn’t stand to be apart. He proposed to me in the hospital, no ring, no plan, no expectation I’d say yes. But I did, because he was the only person there for me, the only one who stayed, who fed me, who held my hand through every moment of pain. Since then, he’s been my caretaker and my partner, making every meal, managing our home, loving me as I am. During this time, he took up cement sculpting to help deal with the stress and found that he was actually really good at it!

So, in the midst of all the struggles, we decided to take a leap of faith and start our own cement sculpture business. We figured that, no matter how hard things got, we could work together and build something meaningful. It’s been tough between my ongoing medical issues and the financial strain, but it’s also been one of the most fulfilling things we’ve done. We pour our hearts into every piece we create, and every sculpture is a reminder of how far we’ve come and how much we still have to offer the world.

I lost my job through all this, and the medical bills just keep coming. But through all the hardship, Joshua and I continue to push forward together, finding joy where we can in the work we do, no matter how small the victories may seem. We’re doing our best to make this business succeed, and it's given us a sense of purpose.
